Common questions related to joining my golf society

Question: What is a “Golf Society”?

Answer: A golf society is where a group of people pay an annual subscription to become a member of a golfing group, where we play golf on a variety of golf courses.

You would be provided with a society handicap which will be deducted from your total score on the day!

The day usually involves golf & food with a prize presentation.

A schedule of events will be made to notify you with our chosen golf courses and dates throughout the year.

Question: How do I become a member of this golf society?

Answer: You would have to fill in one of the Subscription forms and send it back with your fee to the address on the form.

Question: What is different about your societies?

Answer: Well I run the outings the same as explained above, but the difference with the strivers society is that this is for beginners only over 9 holes and we have our own special rules, which are:

1. You can tee your ball up on a tee peg all the way around the golf course.

2. Fresh airs don’t count.

3. Free drop out of rough and bunkers if you choose.

4. 10 shots or more you may pick up and mark 10(x)

We provide a talk on fitness for golf, rules of golf, equipment for golf and information you would need to know about golf in general.

Question: How much does each outing cost and what do I receive for that?

Answer: Each outing costs on average €40 and this pays for Golf, Food, Prizes and a chocolate snack for the golf bag.

Question: What do I need before I go out on the golf course?

Answer: Your own golf bag, golf clubs, golf balls, golf tees, ball marker, pitch mark repairer, golf shoes, umbrella, rain suit, golf trolley (optional and may be hired at the venue), and the proper golf attire.

Question: What are the DON’T'S in golf?Answer: Ok well here goes……

1. You must never wear Denim clothing in the clubhouse or on the golf course.

2. You cannot wear trainers in a lot of club houses.

3. You must wear golf shoes on the course, soft spikes preferably.

4. You cannot borrow other player’s golf clubs, golf balls or any golf equipment on the golf course.

5. Please be quiet during other player’s shots, have common courtesy.

6. Do not walk over other player’s lines on the putting surface, as this may distort your playing partners intended line.

7. It is your own group’s responsibility to keep pace of play up with the group in front.

If you find you cannot keep up, you must let the group behind pass through, “so step to the side and wave them on”.

8. It is your own responsibility to stay clear of other player’s swings and shots. Just be careful.

IF YOUR BALL IS HEADING STRAIGHT AT ANOTHER PLAYER SHOUT “FORE” AT THE TOP OF YOUR VOICE!

IF YOU HEAR “FORE” YELLED OUT, GET DOWN AND PUT YOUR HANDS OVER YOUR HEAD!!!

9. Do not continue play if you see lightening flashes in the sky.

These are some of the common questions asked about golf, if you have any others please email me on striversgolfsociety@eircom.net

Thank you and happy golfing!!!
